Sending your phone off can feel like the point where everything is out of your hands. The good news is that the SellMobile process is built around a few simple checks: delivery, assessment, quote confirmation and payment.
Here is what happens after you post your device, and what can affect the final quote.
Your phone is tracked in transit
Once you create an order, use the postage details provided and keep hold of your receipt or tracking reference. That gives you proof that the parcel has entered the Royal Mail network.
The prepaid Royal Mail label covers up to ÂŖ150 insurance. If your phone is worth more than ÂŖ150, we advise using Royal Mail Special Delivery so the parcel is covered for the full value of the device.
Before sending it, remove any screen lock, sign out of your Apple ID or Google account, and make sure the phone is not linked to Find My iPhone, Find My Device or another account lock. A locked phone can slow down assessment or reduce the quote.
The device is checked when it arrives
When your phone reaches SellMobile, it is assessed against the details in your order. The team checks the model, storage, condition and whether the phone powers on properly.
Typical checks include:
- screen condition
- frame and back glass damage
- charging port and buttons
- cameras and speakers
- battery and power behaviour
- account locks or security blocks
- whether the model and storage match the order
Most quote changes happen because the phone arrives in a different condition from the one selected online. A small scratch is not the same as a cracked screen, and a working phone is not the same as one that will not charge or stay on.
Your quote is confirmed or updated
If the phone matches the order details, the quote can move ahead as expected.
If something does not match, SellMobile will review the condition and update the quote. That might happen if the storage is different, the device has a fault, the screen is damaged, or the phone is still locked to an account.
This is why it is worth checking the phone carefully before posting. Choose the closest condition, be honest about faults, and send the correct model. It keeps the assessment cleaner and avoids surprises later.
Payment follows the assessment
After the assessment is complete and the quote is confirmed, payment can be processed to the details on your order.
The simplest way to keep things moving is to send the phone promptly, package it well, and make sure the order details are accurate. If the team needs to query a lock, fault or model mismatch, that can add extra time.
What you can do before posting
A quick check before posting can save delays:
- back up your data
- erase your personal information
- remove account locks
- take off any case or screen protector if it hides damage
- package the phone securely
- keep your postage receipt
- use Special Delivery for higher-value phones
If you are still comparing options, get a quote first and check the condition guide carefully. A clear order at the start usually means a smoother assessment after the phone arrives.
