What the MacBook Neo actually is
Apple laptops have always been expensive. The MacBook Neo is Apple's attempt to change that â a machine built around AI performance that sits below the Pro lineup in price, but does not feel stripped down in use.
Whether it fully delivers on that promise will become clear when it ships. For now, here is what Apple has announced.
The hardware
The Neo runs a dedicated Neural Engine designed to handle on-device AI tasks without the performance hit you would normally see. AI features run locally â your data stays on the machine â and Apple claims all-day battery life despite the extra processing load. If that holds up in real-world use, it would be genuinely impressive for a laptop doing AI work.
It runs macOS, uses the same build quality as the rest of the MacBook range, and gets the same software update cycle. It is not a cut-down machine â it just costs less than the Pro.
Who it is for
Students, freelancers, small business owners â anyone who has wanted a MacBook but could not justify the Pro price. If you use AI tools regularly and would rather run them locally than through a cloud subscription, the Neo is built with that in mind.
Pre-orders are open
The Neo has not shipped yet, but pre-orders are live. Apple launches tend to sell through fast â if you are serious about getting one, earlier is better.
